Satisfaction

Which, apparently, I can get. No, not in that way. Rather, the emotional kind.

I went to a "Town Hall" meeting moderated by a sociologist of race who insistated on putting on pseudo-ebonic airs in her speech. I made a response to her comment about "what about revolution to remedy the problem of race discrimination?" with "You want to have a revolution over solely what much of America thinks is not a problem? Even if it is, you're throwing the baby out with the bathwater. In any case, how come other races have bounced back so easily from racism?" Certain elements are debatable, certainly - I am aware racism against blacks has been of a different magnitude in this country.

A fellow across the hall then responded "I don't know your name, and I don't want to," and then continued with a sob story about not being able to meet his (white) girlfriend's parents because he was black. Aside from the irony of using this category to castigate me, it was most uncivil and unpleasant.

However, in my Comparative Constitutional Law seminar, the whole topic of conversation was about how this fellow was a Major Asshole.

Amusingly, I actually know Ms. (and she is definitely a Ms., despite protestations to the contrary) Rigot. I can still remember the umbrage wraught when I called her "Katie" instead of "Kate" when driving back from NAQT Sectionals.
