A thought...terrorism is directly tied to a group's percentage of population. In cases where the party feeling oppression is the majority, nonviolent resistance by and large is adopted and is succesful when adopted. By contrast, when it is a minority feeling oppressed (E.G. Palestinians, Sunni Iraqis, Tamils, Basques, et al), they turn to terrorism because they seek either dominance or to splinter, the former of which is impossible for a minority without violence (the latter is simply irrelevant for a majority).
