Where's My End?

To be honest, I never really understood the point of ends (of bread). They're so crusty ... does anyone eat them? Why sell them to me?

But of course one expects to see ends on his bread. If you buy a "loaf" of rye bread, it's really half a loaf usually, and then you only get one end. That makes sense. But I recently bought a loaf of Twelve Grain bread (who knew there were twelve grains!?). It's a whole loaf, of typical loaf length. At the top of the bag, where I opened it, there was an end. But at the bottom, there is no end. This is not a bottomless loaf of bread, but an endless one. And I don't mean that it will never be finished.

Where is the end of my loaf of bread? What did they do with it? Was my loaf too fat? Was it so overweight that the sellers didn't want to risk giving me too much bread?
