Sometimes it isn't about buying things out of need, but just for fun. Case in point:
Staples has MS Flight Simulator 2002 for $19.99.
Amazon has MS Flight Simulator 2002 for $14.99.
MS has a $20 rebate.
Staples has a cool new stapler, called the Desktop Stapler with Staple Gun Power, on sale for $12.99.
Staples sent me a $5 off coupon for the stapler.
So, I ordered both. Here's how the math worked out:
$19.99 (MS Flight) + $12.99 (stapler) - $5 (coupon) + $2.42 (tax) = $30.40
$30.40 - $20 (rebate) - $5.97 (PM) - $.56 (FatCash) - $.24 (cc cash back) = $3.63.
The YUCS server was moved over the last few days. Unfortunately, no advanced noticed was given, so I wasn't able to warn you. I hope you survived the time without my blog.
It was Joyce Jesionowski who denied my summer school course credit.
Staples has another good deal on the Netgear MR814NA Cable/DSL Wireless Router w/ 4 Port Switch 802.11B (479527) on sale for $44.94 (plus tax = $48.82), with a $35 MIR. With a very easy 110% PM to Amazon's price of $36.04, the price drops $10.63 to $3.19. Taking into account FatCash ($.90) and CC cashback ($.45), the final cost is $1.84.
Odds of the "extra" $20 MIR working this time are lower than last time, because the list of stores on the rebate form does not include Staples.
The baby furniture we ordered, quite some time ago, finally arrived about a week ago. The store scheduled delivery for "after 11 am" on Thursday. They showed up after 6 pm. As they unpacked the dresser, I admired the beautiful natural color of the wood, then remembered that we had ordered the furniture with a dark stain. Upon commenting on this discrepancy, the furniture guy checked his paperwork and realized he brought the wrong box. They repacked the dresser, and promised to return on Monday. They also left their drill behind.
On Friday, they called and offered to deliver the dresser Saturday night. I didn't believe them for a minute, but my wife was hopeful. Surprise, surprise, they never showed. A quick call on Sunday granted us a minimal apology, and a promise of delivery between 11-1.
They did actually show during the scheduled time, and even brought the right furniture, but didn't have a hammer, so they had to borrow mine.
While this seems bad, they weren't as bad as the ghetto movers my friend hired to move our couch (which we were giving to him to make room for the baby furniture) from out apartment to his. They came with no tools, and asked to borrow a screwdriver, in order to remove the feet from the couch, to ease the transfer of it. I lent them a screwdriver, and they succeeded in removing the feet, while mangling them in the process.
I later heard from my friend that things were a little different on his end. When they arrived, they still had no tools, and needed a hammer to force the feet back into the couch. Lacking one, they chose to use a grate from the range. In the process of banging in the feet, they bent the grate out of shape. My friend's fiancé was less than pleased.
OfficeMax sucks, and I'm not the only one who thinks so!
BTW, I still haven't heard anything from the letter I sent on April 27. It's "only" been 2-3 weeks, so I'll give them a little more time before I try to track down a number for the corporate office.
An Italian found the site using Overture. A search for "posted digital pictures" lists my Digital Pictures post as #17.
I got the book today. It is possible it was delivered yesterday (but hoarded by the mail-room), meaning it was 1-2 days early. My complaint stands.
Did you hear about the new no carb diet they want to start across the country in November of this year? They think it will really benefit us all and take us away from many of the problems we've been experiencing as a nation.
This no CARB diet would be:
No Cheyney
No Ashcroft
No Rumsfeld
No Bush
And of course you would have no Rice with this either.
I previously ranted about the borderline fraudulent manner in which Amazon implements its "Super Saver Shipping." Back on May 7 I ordered 2 items, Jasc Paint Shop Photo Album 4 (which was then FAR) and Consumer Reports Best Baby Products, 8th Edition. The software shipped on May 7 (same day!) and arrived yesterday, despite a shipping estimate of May 11 and a delivery estimate of May 14-17. The book shipped May 8, and I'll let you know when it is delivered.
However, even though they are beating their estimates, the problem hasn't been solved. Something that "usually ships in 24 hours" shouldn't switch to shipping several days later, just because you choose a cheaper shipping method.
The excessive desire to give out tickets in NY has been in the news a lot, at least here in NY. Yesterday, when we were loading the cars after the bris, we had four cars - 2 parked in the no-parking zone in front of the shul, and 2 double parked. A traffic enforcement cop came along, and to my shock, came to a stop in front on the second parked car, and proceeded to get out with her ticket book. I went up to her to explain that we were simply loading the cars with the leftovers and other stuff from an "event," and would be moving along shortly. I even offered to move my car (and have the others moved) as well. She thought about it for entirely too long before deciding that it would be OK, as long as I stayed with my car. The fact that obviously I was staying with my car in order to have noticed her getting ready to ticket me was lost on her.
I've been linked! In response to Non-Spanking Option, "mythreebears" posted a link to my OT: Tough Love vs. Spanking post.
As I was walking down the street yesterday, a blind man spoke, to no one in particular, though I was the only one around. He asked for help crossing the street. I stepped up to the challenge, and hooked arms with him. As we were crossing, he commented that up until he was hit, he used to cross on his own. In horror, I expressed my awe at his being hit. He replied that it wasn't that bad - he was only hit by the motorist's mirror.
