All Purpose Product
WD-40 is the arch enemy of Duct Tape. For anything that moves, but shouldn't Duct Tape comes to the rescue. Conversely, for anything that should move, but doesn't, WD-40 is your man! It is well known for most of it's labeled uses (stops squeaks, cleans and protects, loosens rusted parts, frees sticky mechanisms, drives out moisture). However, I honestly believe that people don't pay attention to that second use enough. I have used WD-40 to remove sticky stuff (e.g. sticker residue) from just about any surface for a long time. It tends to be more readily available than specially designed goo removers, and less caustic than nail polish remover.
Just today, as I was looking for something to eat in the fridge, and as the door began to close on me, it stuck to my leg. Ich!
After a closer inspection, I realized that the can of pareve (fake) whipped cream seemed to have leaked. And by leaked, I mean the product seeped through the can! (Imagine what it does to your digestive tract!) Instead of being in a state of wondrous fluffiness, however, it was a glob of nasty sticky stuff. I removed all of the bottles from the shelf (of which two were fairly stuck to the door), and tried cleaning the shelf. No luck with water. No luck with hot water. No luck with soapy water. No luck with Windex. No luck with Tilex with Bleach. At this point I knew I needed something stronger, more powerful! I considered nail polish remover, but figured that would wreak havoc no the plastic shelf.
WD-40 to the rescue. I applied a liberal coating of WD-40 to the shelf, and low and behold, the glob of nasty sticky stuff quickly and easily wiped away! Now all I worry about is why whipped cream is dissolvable only by WD-40?!?!
